Wilson Knowledge Fair

The Wilson PTA is pleased to announce the Wilson Knowledge Fair on Wednesday, March 22nd, 2017 in the school gym. The purpose of the fair is to encourage children to explore areas of interest, as well as develop skills in critical thinking, research, and problem solving. We hope that many students will choose to participate and share their creative talents and interests with the public. Every student that presents a project in the fair is considered a winner and will receive a Certificate of Participation. Each child will have the opportunity to discuss their project with an adult who will interview him/ her and provide oral and written comments. We recognize that children of various age levels need different amounts of parental involvement. The best way adults can help is to provide guidance, time, space, and support needed to make this an educational and fun experience.

We recognize that children of various age levels need different amounts of parental involvement. The best way adults can help is to provide guidance, time, space and the support needed to make this an educational and fun experience. What is important at home is that everyone learns from and enjoys this process together.

Registration forms will be available in your child’s classroom and on the Wilson website. Please complete the form by Friday, March 17th, and return it to the office. Please bring all projects to the gym on Tuesday, March 21st between 2:45 and 6:00 p.m. Projects may also be brought to school on Tuesday and delivered to the gym at the end of the day. All science and knowledge projects should be picked up between 5:45 – 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22nd; otherwise they can be picked up from classrooms on Wednesday. We need lots of help during the fair. If you are able to help, please sign up on the registration form or watch for a list serve article with a Volunteer Spot link. Each student may submit one piece of artwork.

ART Project Criteria

-Student work must be recent, original, and completed at home, not in school. Any medium may be used: drawing, painting, pottery, sculpture, weaving, knitting, photography, etc.

-Size is limited to no larger than 3ft. x 3ft. x 2 ft. and may not be heavier than what the child can carry.

-Artwork should be unframed, although it may be mounted on lightweight backboard (projects must be hung with tape).

-Label student’s name and teacher’s name on the back of the artwork.

Each student may submit one Science or Knowledge project.

SCIENCE Project Criteria

Students may choose a project from the following categories:

Grades K – 4: Collection, Model, Experiment, Invention, Informational Report, or

-Demonstration (please ask teacher permission to do this in class BEFORE you choose it you will not be able to do a demonstration during the interviews)

Grade 5: Experiment (this project is a class requirement)

-Participants are encouraged to bring all their equipment. Live animals may NOT be displayed at the fair.

-Include Student’s name and teacher on the back of the display board AND on all other pieces.

KNOWLEDGE Project Criteria

-Participants are encouraged to complete a display board to present findings. Participants are encouraged to bring additional artifacts. Please label all pieces.

-Include Student’s name and teachers on the back of the display board AND on all other pieces. A label will be provided for the front of the board.
