Dear Wildcat Community,
The old adage of “work hard, play hard” has definitely been visible at Wilson in recent weeks. I’ve been in classrooms observing our Wildcats giving great effort on their assignments, projects, and assessments. Thank you families for coming in during conferences to see evidence of your child’s effort, progress, and opportunity areas to grow. We consider it an honor to partner with our Wildcat families!
What an awesome evening at the Wilson World Fair and Carnival! It was fun to see so many Wildcats join in the learning and play at the carnival. A huge thank you to our incredible volunteers who made the night such a wonderful community event! Our book fair was also very successful again this year. Our goal is to provide a print rich environment at school and at home—thank you to the terrific Book Fair committee and volunteers for making it all happen!!
The Wildcat Geo Challenge finished the second monthly “check day” this week with the support of our super volunteers! We are learning about countries all over the world! Here is a link to presentation for the November countries for Level 1: https://prezi.com/v6bf0dncdgnh/november-wildcat-geo-challnege/. We also are adding a “special itinerary” opportunity this month. This option invites students to take on the challenge of choosing a country and digging deeper. I look forward to what our Wildcats discover! For participating, students will earn a special stamp in their travel logs. They will also be entered into the drawing for a “globe themed prize” that I will draw from during our monthly assemblies.
We are excited to launch our annual direct donation drive campaign this year that we are calling “Loving Wilson Direct Drive.” Our PTA and school leadership team have set a goal of $5000. These funds will allow for the expansion of our Classroom Food Adventures Cooking Program, playground equipment for physical wellness in PE/recess, and support our annual Wellness Fair in the spring. Please read the letter included for more information about the Loving Wilson Direct Drive and see how you can help by making a tax-deductible gift to our kids at Wilson Elementary School.

Direct Donation Drive
We are excited to announce the launch of our Loving Wilson Direct Donation Drive with the goal of supporting our Wilson Elementary School Community. The “Direct Donation Drive” allows parents and community members to give tax-deductible donations, which directly supports Wilson Elementary! Our goal for the drive is to raise $5000.
Your support will be focused on Wellness this year! With your donations we hope to be able to:
- Provide monthly cooking classes called Classroom Food Adventures to almost every classroom at Wilson! In addition to a health and nutrition focus, subjects such as science, math, and literacy will be integrated in the sessions.
- Support our community Wellness Fair in the spring!
- Expand the opportunities for outside play by buying new equipment including a climbing wall!
There are several ways to “Love Wilson”:
- Write a check (made out to Wilson PTA with Loving Wilson on the memo line) or bring cash in an envelope and place it in the designated box in the office.
- Mail a check to Wilson Elementary School at 2701 NW Satinwood Street, Corvallis, Oregon 97330.
- Donate online through the Corvallis Schools Foundation website https://cpsfoundation.org/at and specify Wilson Elementary School/Loving Corvallis in the dropdown box.
We will be highlighting specific funding projects over the course of the year so that you can see how your dollars are impacting our Wildcat community. You can donate online at any time, at the school during the school day, or at any of the school events. Don’t delay, show love for our Wilson Kids today!

Wilson Elementary Retake Day is November 8, 2017!
Picture retake day is quickly approaching. If we did not see you on picture day or you would like a new image, do not miss out on ordering pictures for your student.
Pre-orders for picture packages may be placed online now at https://ios.mydorian.com using your school’s access key provided here X8YZSBGZ. Online pre-orders using your school’s access key are available up to 4 days after retake day.
Wilson World’s Fair & Carnival
A huge thank you to all the families that came out and participated in this fun event. To all of our Amazing volunteers, we wouldn’t have been able to pull it off without each and every one of you. Thank you for blowing up countless balloons, making cotton candy, bagging popcorn, running games and so much more. Your time and enthusiasm was appreciated and didn’t go unnoticed.

Hello Wilson Families,
Thanks to all our volunteers who helped out at the World Fair & Carnival as well as the Book Fair! Both events were a great success and we couldn’t do it without you.
We still have lots of exciting events happening over the coming months. Volunteers are always needed, so if you can help out in any way, please let us know.

Students from Wilson come from a variety of backgrounds. Many come to us needing snacks each day. Would you be willing to contribute snacks each week for these students? Things we would love are fresh fruit (little oranges are being devoured these days), granola bars, cheese its, applesauce, pretzels, string cheese, etc. Things that are perishable could be brought on Monday. Other things can be brought at any time. If you’d like to fill this need here at Wilson please contact Nichole Hoffman at 541-757-5969 or email@example.com. If you want to drop snacks off, please give them to our office staff. They will get used!
Canned Food Drive – December 4-15, 2017
Canned food will be collected from December 4-15, 2017. Donations can be brought to the school entry area. Your donation will benefit Wilson families in need. Think “Holiday Dinner”: instant mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans, yams, cranberry sauce, dessert makings, juice, olives, cornbread mix, etc.
Please make sure your child is up to date on all required immunizations or that a waiver has been completed in the school office. Notices of incomplete immunization status will be sent home to parents from the Benton County Health Department in November. Incomplete immunizations should be resolved As Soon As Possible.
How are these decisions made?District Closure, School Cancellation, Delayed Start, Early Release
The safety of Corvallis School District students and staff is the primary consideration for any decision regarding closures, cancellations, and delayed starts. Additionally, the suitability of our facilities for occupation is thoughtfully considered as well as the condition of local infrastructure. In any situation where safety may be compromised, district office leadership work with appropriate district departments and/or regional agencies to make informed decisions regarding risk factors.
How are these decisions communicated?
Information regarding district closures, school cancellations, delayed starts, or early releases is broadcast as early as possible to allow district staff and patrons to make appropriate alterations in their routines. The district utilizes FlashAlert.Net as one means of communication. This website gives you access to emergency messages, such as breaking news or snow closure information, as well as news releases from participating organizations in several area states. Registration on this site is free and there is an option to receive information as an e-mail and/or a cell phone text message.
