Dear Wilson Wildcat Community,
Welcome back to an exciting 2018-19 school year at Wilson Elementary!
Thank you for partnering with us in preparing for the school year ahead. I thoroughly enjoy how each fall brings a fresh start and new opportunities to collaboratively build our culture and community. If you are a new family to Wilson, welcome!
I hope your family has had time to play and relax over the summer! I enjoyed my favorite northwest summer activity with my wife and three daughters—camping!! I also had the opportunity to play on an adult baseball league this summer which has been fun, challenging, and painful at times J.
At Wilson, we will continue to focus on engaging our students in a rigorous and relevant curriculum. This year we will be implementing a new literacy curriculum aligned to our college and career readiness core standards. We hope you will make family reading part your daily rhythm. Also, this year we will have a school-wide emphasis on Wellness including the building of our Wildcat Garden. Be sure to take a look at the garden when you come to meet your teacher on Tuesday, September 4th from 12:30-1:30pm!
We will be having a Wilson campus beautification serve day on Saturday, August 25th from 9:00 to 11:30 am. We will be spreading bark, pulling weeds, and picking up trash. You are welcome to come for all or part of the morning. We will meet in front of the school at the main entrance. Please consider bringing a water bottle and garden gloves.
A big thank you to our Wilson PTA for funding the addition of a new traverse climbing wall on the primary playground (South playground)! Our PTA is looking forward to serving alongside families and students this year with all the great events and activities that are planned!
Go Wilson Wildcats!
School Supply List 2018-2019
In order to reduce the back-to-school financial burden for families, all general classroom supplies (e.g. pencils, glue, crayons) have been funded by our district and purchased in bulk. For 2018-19, you will see a streamlined list of personal student supplies. If you are interested in donating items from the school wish list, please drop them off outside the Wilson office. Please contact the Wilson office if confidential assistance with personal student supplies is needed or if you have any questions, 541-757-5987. 2018-2019 School Supply List
September Food Services Menu
This year our Food Services Department will be sending us the menu one month at a time (in previous years we received the entire year’s menu all at one time). We will share every new menu just as soon as we receive it. To start, we have attached the September menu. September Menu
Corvallis School District 18-19 Calendar
The formal 2018-2019 school calendar is attached for you. This version is for all the elementary and middle schools in our district. School Year Calendar
Meet & Greet the Teacher
Our Teacher Meet & Greet is scheduled for Tuesday, September 4th from 12:30pm-1:30pm. This is the time for you and your child to visit their classroom, meet their new teacher, and explore the school. It is also a great time to stop by the office and deposit money into student meal accounts.
First Day of School
The first day of school is exactly two weeks from today. The hallways open at 8:05 a.m. and the school day ends at 2:40 p.m. (Monday – Thursday) and 1:40 p.m. on Fridays. Please remember that all students arriving on campus before 8:05 a.m. MUST go to the gym unless a parent stays with them until the classroom doors open. This is for safety reasons and we appreciate your compliance with this school rule.
Welcome Back to School BBQ & Curriculum Night
Each September we hold a Back to School BBQ and Curriculum Night for parents to come learn about what their students will be studying during the school year. This event is free for families so come and enjoy a meal with us and get to know more of your Wildcat community. Mark your calendar for Thursday September 20th at 5:00pm and watch for more information about the event as the date gets closer. We hope to see you there.
The Corvallis School District contracts with First Student, Inc. for transportation services. Transportation includes bus service to and from school, field trips, athletics, and other school related activities. This year, there continues to be a bus driver shortage and First Student is working to recruit and train additional drivers. Due to this shortage, we are evaluating bus routes and will publish the new routes on August 24. All students must register to ride the bus. Information about bus registration is on the district website at the following link: https://www.csd509j.net/departments/student-transportation/bus-registration/
