The Wilson Wildcat choir performed on Wednesday at the annual district-wide Choralpalooza! Our fantastic students did so well! Personally it was wonderful to see former students at the middle and high school level setting such a great example and peek into the future for the young ones.  Big kudos to Ms. Coolen and all the music teachers that worked hard to put this event together!   -Mr. B

Award Winning Author Chris Grabenstein Skypes with Wilson Students

Today was a special day at Wilson. Mrs. Koegler arranged for award winning author Chris Grabenstein to Skype with Wilson Students in the library. One of the current favorites written by Mr. Grabenstein is Escape From Mr. Lemoncello’s Library. See the note below about how it went!

From Mrs. Koegler:

The author visit was amazing. He was really great with the kids, and when he flipped the camera around and showed them the view of New York City out his window, it kind of blew their minds that they were seeing someone all the way in New York City. He showed them his office and the walls were covered with materials he uses when writing. He was so entertaining and kid-friendly and shared some great ideas about writing, how he writes, encouraging the kids to write and mess up and try again. We started with three questions from each class, but then had time for a lot of other kids to get to step up to the laptop and ask a question!

Feeling the Love!

Dear Wilson Wildcat Community,

On Saturday, Oct. 17th, we had over 20 local community members come and spread 20 yards (that’s 20 tons! Whoa!) of fine trail gravel on our Wildcat Trail. Along with adding a much needed upgrade layer (see the pictures below), we removed a huge trailer full of branches and blackberry that were impeding the trail. The organization was a collaboration of churches from Corvallis participating in a community serve event called “Love Corvallis.” At Wilson, we are very proud of the dedicated volunteers that support great programs such as Cardio kids and having the improved trail will fantastic as the wet weather arrives in the valley. Kudos!

Volunteer of Month at Wilson!

Congrats to Stephanie Galvan our Wilson Volunteer of the Month!  Read below to learn about Stephanie and how she makes a positive difference on lives at our school!

How do you volunteer at Wilson?

I am pretty introverted, so I usually try to do “homework”…things that I can do at home in my sweatpants like sharpening pencils, collating, stapling, folding foldables, and trimming/organizing the school’s box tops. I also try to chaperone as many field trips as I can because I have a thing for pumpkin patches.

Why do you choose to volunteer your time and talents?

Our teachers work so very, very hard to provide our children with a high-quality education, and if I can help them go slightly less insane by taking care of some mundane tasks, I’m all for it. But mostly it feeds my need to rid the world of dull pencils and, you know, the pumpkin patch thing.

What might you tell someone else considering volunteering at Wilson?

I would say that there is definitely something for everyone, even if you work full time outside your home or if big group things don’t overlap with your comfort zone (for instance). Check in with regular and specials teachers and office staff…you never know when you might be just the right person for the job!

What is your favorite thing to do around Corvallis with your family?

Procuring ice cream in its various and sundry forms. We have been known to celebrate with ice cream just because it’s Tuesday or because the wind is blowing from the northwest.

True Grit!

Wilson Wildcat Counselor Nichole Hoffman creates periodic theme videos for our school! Check out latest video focused on Grit with her co-star Newman.  Enjoy and thanks for reinforcing the theme of GRIT at home with your child!

World Fair and Carnival… Yup, it’s Coming!!!

In the picture below is Wilson parent Dan Roberson volunteering in our display case that draws attention to the Wilson World Fair and Carnival that will be Friday, October 23rd from 5:00 to 7:00pm at Wilson! This epic time of games, food, art, and culture is not to be missed! A big thanks to Beth Roberson for taking the lead with this planning this event! Mark your calendars and we will see you there!
